September's Core Value: Honesty

This month, we are extolling the virtue of Honesty. At St. Andrew’s, we know that the decade of childhood is the best time to make mistakes, so if a kid messes up, they can come clean, learn from their mistake and move on. We’re usually even able to laugh about it later on.
In 1st grade, students read “The Honest-to-Goodness Truth” by Patricia McKissack and discussed how telling the truth isn’t always so simple. The first graders talked about being honest at the right time, in the right way, and for the right reasons.

In 5th grade Life Skills class, honesty is discussed as one of a core list of expectations to set the tone for what this unique class can accomplish when students are willing to be vulnerable and honest with one another.

During Morning Exercises, we are teaching kids that honesty is about more than telling the truth, it’s about building a foundation for open, deep, and meaningful relationships, and we are recognizing students who are placing value on their ability to be honest with others, and with themselves. When complimenting 8th grader Camille Raines, Mrs. Rini said it best: “An honest heart can always be trusted.”

And honestly, what could be better than that?
