Call for STEM Expo Consultants

On Friday, January 26 St. Andrew’s Episcopal School will hold its 6th Annual STEM Expo. The STEM Expo will once again showcase student work in grades PK-8 in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. We will once again hold a celebration of our Middle School students’ wonderful work. Therefore, this year we will not be seeking judges, but are seeking “STEM Consultants” to view, discuss, and offer feedback on the various projects. Below you will find a brief description of the projects and the times when students will be available for feedback. We are hoping for 2-5 “STEM Consultants” per grade level.

  • 5th Grade – Using Design Thinking to Prototype Developmentally Appropriate Toys for 3 Year Olds (8:15 – 9:20 / 6 groups)
  • 6th Grade – Collaborative Rube Goldberg Machine (8:15 – 9:20 / 1 large collaboration with 6 group segments)
  • 7th Grade – Using Design Thinking to Illustrate and Prototype New Educational Spaces at St. Andrew’s (8:15 – 9:20 / 4 group projects)
  • 8th Grade – Computer Programming (8:15 – 9:55 / 3 group projects)

If you are interested in being a “STEM Consultant” please contact Chris Sedgwick, St. Andrew’s Science Department Chair, at your nearest convenience.

Teddy Bear Christmas 2017

This week our Kinderbears and Rainbow Fish celebrated together with a Teddy Bear Christmas in the Kindergarten classroom.  It was a special treat to see the excitement of both our Kinderbears and Rainbow Fish.  The Kinderbears were great leaders/role models and the Rainbow Fish were delighted to be Kinderbears for a morning.  We read The Night Before Christmas, created a stuffed teddy bear, and enjoyed teddy bear cookies and milk with our friends.

SAES Gingerbread Houses

St. Andrew’s holiday traditions include creating beautiful and delicious gingerbread houses with a special family member. This week, students in PK, K and first grade constructed their sweet treats!

Cardinal Court Dedication

On Wednesday, November 8 we gathered together as a School to celebrate the dedication of Cardinal Court, our new outdoor basketball and volleyball court.

Father Jim Morrison opened the ceremony with a blessing, and Head of School Melville Brown thanked all of our donors, faculty, staff and friends who made the Court a possibility. We heard about the importance of this new play space from Athletic Director Anne Seiler, and Student Council President Ella shared her thoughts on how this new space would be used for years to come. The ceremony wrapped up with beautiful vocals from a student ensemble, led by Music Director Lana Lonadier, who sang their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. A reception followed for parents and donors in the Multipurpose Room in Grace Hall.

If you have not had a chance to see Cardinal Court, we invite you to visit campus to view it in action! Thank you again to everyone who made this wonderful new space a reality for St. Andrew’s.

4th Grade Play

Lights! Camera! Action! The 4th graders entertained their families and friends with a production of The Case of the Bewitched Books. The students had so much fun bringing to life many of their favorite fairy tale characters. It was truly a magical performance!

Third Grade Play

Our third graders performed “Hansel and Gretel and the Creepy Woods” to kickoff the first play of the school year. “The third graders embraced this opportunity to perform on the stage. They rehearsed, memorized their lines, and coordinated their costumes with an impressive degree of independence. They made their own notes and ad-libs. It really was their play. Their enthusiasm and hard work really made this experience special for the St. Andrew’s community” said teachers Erin Bienvenu and Jen Bilbe. Congratulations third graders!
